I just learned that at the forthcoming Bread and Butter trade show, the "occasional" premium brand "Laboratorio" will be rekindled. It is a kind of showcase by TRC Candiani, one of the foremost Italian denim mills, in cooperation with Okinawa (denim accessories specialist) and Interwashing Group -Elleti-, a prime Italian denim lauderer. One can witness the entire production cycle of high end jeans from fabric to finished product, and obtain a pair with several customising options.
A similar action has been done at the very first BBB held at Berlin's Tempelhof Airport back in 2009, and I did get one as a collector's item.
Two caveats: First, all I know for the time being is second-hand, from news items in the trade press. What exactly is on offer I can only find out on the actual trade show, which runs from Wednesday to Friday this week (July 4th to 6th). Second, a large part of the appeal back in 2009 was a high degree of customisation, i.e. embossing of a metal label on the back pockets with an individual slogan. The report I've read (on Sportswear International -SI-) hints at similar options available this year.
SI says the jeans will cost either 50 or 80 €, for a quality that would normally retail at 200 €. As I recall from 2009, they were all prewashed, no raws. This again may be different this season.
I am pretty stoked about acquiring another pair of these utterly rare jeans, available to a limited public only during the three days of the trade show.
I thought both as a service to the community here, but frankly also to replenish my finances a little after yet another purchase due to my denim addiction, I'll offer a proxy service for anyone who also wants to get a pair and can't be at the trade show.
Handling it all may be a little tricky due to the short time, and I reckon there may be no pictures of the product available online. I'll ask about this and will post any viewing options here.
If anyone wants to take me up on this: please be prepared to instruct me as detailled as possible, as there will be no exchanging possibilities. Stocks may run out long before the end of the trade show as well, I plan to get my own as early on the first day as possible.
I propose a handling charge of 30 €, additionally obviously the cost of the jeans and the shipping. I trust this is fair regarding the effort involved and the rarity of the occasion. In the (probably unlikely) case of huge interest: I may not be able to serve them all, as there is a huge agenda on the three show dates.
