The Hello Board / Re: The Hello Thread

Hello everyone,

long overdue introduction, tho' I have posted a denim history and a 16 yr old pic.

Some of you may remember me from superdenim, I've been banned from that forum twice. For being generally obnoxious. I had a foot injury earlier this year, which required strong painkillers. Complications have required my foot to be broken and reset, more strong painkillers. Alcohol and painkillers don't mix well. No excuses , I can be pretty obnoxious on my own without any help.

I promise to be on my best behaviour here, still on the painkillers, hence posting at 05.40 a.m. with just the cat as company., but trying to lay off the booze.

Married with 2 boys, 8 and 3.

I got my first IH shirt about 2 years ago, IHSH, 13. Followed by an IHSH 16 in Red.
Next was an IH 526J OD, best denim jacket I ever owned.

I like a high rise jean, so I always steered clear of the bottoms, but dived in on a pair of SBGs a few weeks ago, waiting for the cast to come off before christening 'em.

Didn't think it disrespectful, but Les Bleus made a good fist of staring down the Haka at the last WC.

I recall a certain Mr. Chagall looking particularly terrifying.

I think I started thinking about what I was wearing after a Stranglers gig at the Apollo Manchester in 1977, I was 14 and wearing the usual parka/jeans/adidas samba combo that was the standard uniform of my generation. I found myself surrounded by the Manchester Punk scene. Kids wearing all sorts of gear, looking cool.

Within a week I looked as weird as school would allow.

Flirted with Casual fashion around 80-81.

I remember reading an article about big E Levi's and Selvage in The Guardian around 1984 and spent the next few years  hunting through Affleck's Palace for the odd treasure find of Big E. Morrissey and Johnny Marr seemed to have an arrangement that all the best stuff was reserved for them.

Continued flirting with shit clothes.

1996 Bought first pair of Japanese jeans, Edwin from Richard Creme in Manchester. I had actually gone in to get a pair of Evisu. He explained how Evisu Europe had gone shit, showing me the difference between the last MIJ pair he had (not my size) and the Italian pair over the road at Aspecto.

1997 For Christmas, my girlfriend got me a pair of Japanese Silverstone Groundalls R501XX from Richard. Company now gone. Still have the jeans.

1999 Bought first pair of LVC 1873 1st Blue Jean from Geese, Manchester

2001 - 2004 Bought tons of LVC from TK Maxx, which inexplicably was selling Valencia St. made stuff for £19.99.

2004 Started buying stuff on ebay, selling it when I got bored or wanted something else.

2009 Discovered Superdenim on Sufu and started learning about other denim brands from Japan.

2010 Bought 2 IH shirts & IH jacket from Sufu after joining as a member.

2011 Got banned from Sufu as redchris, joined again as rusholmeruffian, got banned again. After spending a fortune on clothes, now settled on wearing my best stuff all the time. Jeans in my closet : 2 x warehouse, 1 x Groundalls, 1 x Evis, 1 x 1873 Duck.

I have 2 x sugar cane pants for work

Sept 2011 Bought first pair of IH jeans, BB SBG, now gone because Heavy jeans just are not for me.

I have a number of IH shirts and 1 Type III

After wasting an awful lot of money, my wardrobe is now:
Japan:
Flathead
Full Count
Sugar Cane
45 RPM
Mister freedom
IH
Haversack
RRL
Tenderloin
SDA
Warehouse

UK:
ARN Mercantile
Nigel Cabourn
Barbour
Trickers

US:

LVC
Red Wing
Wolverine

Stick with these 3 , Master Luke, well made they are.

Awesome 'Tron.

Trying to get my 2 boys to look like Mick and Keef.

Dylan didn't mind the collagen in his lips but his brother isn't keen on the smack.

Yep, it's a great film. And not just for that scene.

It was taken off the Film 4 schedule after it was pointed out that scene wasn't a special effect.

That is pretty fucked up ( eating the live Octopus, that is) .

Is Old Boy the film where someone eats an Octopus whilst it is alive ?

Is it weird, that I thought of ordering another pair of 634SB?
I looked at the pics of my pair when they were new yesterday and  felt like I needed another pair, that fits a bit more relaxed...
And the BB, as much as would like to wear them, just aren't doable on my thighs.

I eventually returned my SBGs for a bigger size and I'm loving the more relaxed fit. I also had them hemmed, which I never did before in my life as I always cuff.

Problem was, I like a high cuff and 3 turns up, I looked like I had training weights on my ankles before.

Great final in prospect.

France will have to produce something special, play a lot better than yesterday.

They actually played better without the ball, which is probably not a bad thing against the All Blacks

let me in = let the right one in ??

both scary & sad . . . not necessarily in that order.  i have to read the book

Which did you see? I've only seen the Swedish one, which is awesome.

Apparently the Hollywood remake doesn't suck, for a change, some say its just as good.
