My wife got a candid of me when we were setting up for pizza at the beach on Friday. I make pizza every Friday, and we live a couple of blocks from the water. I bought a stack of pizza boxes on Amazon, so in the summer, we sometimes take our pizza to the beach with a bottle of wine, and enjoy the sunset.
The other day, I was at the hospital in an elevator on my way to a doctor's appointment, and a guy said "Double denim. You don't see that too often. I dig it." fist bump
Thought you guys would appreciate that.
Okay, so I spotted some Iron Heart jeans at a Super Bowl party yesterday, and said to the guy "it's not often that I see Iron Heart in the wild. Nice jeans. Are the 888s?" He replied, "yeah 21oz 888." I'm kind of surprised that it didn't even register with him that I guessed the cut. I didn't want to sound super nerdy, so I didn't mention that I knew they were 21oz by looking at them, so I just let it be.
I made burgers for dinner last night. I don't usually buy burger buns anymore because I've yet to find any in a store that are to my liking, so I've been making my own for years. Not the best photo of my burger and oven fries, but it was delicious
A few new bangers yesterday. A rose, a little filler flower in yellow, and a speed skull! Also, I don't know about your tattoo shop, but mine is always cold! My favorite trick for being comfortable is a down vest. It allows access to the arms for tattoos, and keeps the core warm. Highly recommended!
Feeling a little pressure on my right instep (something that happens with every new pair of boots for me, due to my strangely high instep on my right foot), and I don't love removing the insoles, so I made some that are half as thick to use as "training insoles" until the boots are broken-in.
I sure did! I cut off the original leather and made an exact pattern from it. I searched high and low for olive dye, but none were quite what I was looking for. I ended up learning how to mix my own dye, and managed to get this gorgeous color from a strange concoction of colors!
About 6 years ago, I restored a mid-century chair for a client, and this was the result (see below). I really loved the chair and when I delivered it, I told my client that if she ever wanted to sell it, to please give me a call. Well, a couple of weeks ago she called, and I was able to buy the chair from her at a very reasonable price (just about what I charged her for the restoration), and now it's sitting in my living room!

Be all that as it may, there’s a rich body of peer reviewed evidence that observation of social media likes creates a dopamine spike, and in turn that has been tied to self esteem and anxiety issues.
I am self assured and all that, but I’m not so arrogant as to think I’m immune from this dopamine spike, thus I avoid looking at Likes.
This all feels like it's about Facebook, or similar platforms. The IH forum and its upvote system are not Facebook, and the comparison feels like apples and oranges. I'm not saying that there isn't some level of validation addiction being fed with the upvotes, nor do I disagree with you that it drives engagement, but those are all big concepts that have much larger implications that don't seem to fit with this platform. It seems correlative at best, and while I respect your opinion, it feels like it's more directed at platforms whose algorithms are designed for clicks and ad sales, and whose engagement creates more opportunities for eyeballs on ads. This forum isn't any of that.
Regardless of all of our differing opinions, this is a really interesting conversation!
@jordanscollected I guess I was wondering if you had an answer to why anyone would use sunflower oil. Canola and soybean oils are both neutral in flavor and have high smoke points, so they're ideal for a lot of applications, as you mentioned. But I cannot for the life of me figure out why there's been a recent shift (the last decade) towards sunflower oil. It's not an idea cooking oil, so besides corporate greed, I can't come up with any reasons why it's being used.
@Giles this is honestly the best way to describe it, in my opinion. To me, it’s not about clout, it’s about acknowledging appreciation. At least that’s how I see it here. Other corners of the internet use upvoting much differently. This community is more about sharing common interests than it is about being a social media platform.
@mclaincausey I like that there's an upvote, but no downvote. So there's a way to say "hey, nice post!" without responding directly to it, and there's no downvote option, which seems punitive.
@jordanscollected That looks so good on you!
That's a really interesting job! (Side note: I was a chef for 26 years, so I love that you're doing a job like this. Any way to get out of the restaurant grind is a win in my book.)
I have a question for you that you might be able to answer: I have an allergy to sunflower oil, and it's showing up in more and more foods lately, and making it really difficult to eat things blindly without intense scrutiny and it honestly sucks. Because if I slip up and ingest some, it's going to ruin my week. Are you using sunflower oil in your R&D or recipe development, and if so, why? Maybe you're not, and that's a really good thing. My guess is that it's incredibly inexpensive and has some "health benefit" that fits into whatever trendy health craze is going on. So when a company replaces canola oil with cheap sunflower oil, my immediate thought is that it's due to corporate profits.
I read recently about how it must be confusing to learn English as a second language. Imagine trying to tell the difference between a butt-dial and a booty-call.
