So....if you soak a pair of 21oz IH301S, will they take on anymore weight?

Nope. Cuz 301S and 634S are sanforized. They stay 21oz.

Given the choice i'd go for heavy weight over a light(er) weight denim, but much like Simon comfort is king :)

oh, okay cool. I kinda like having my jeans come ready-to-fade (: Saves a lot of trouble about guesstimating sizes and whatnot!

To each their own, but I do a lot of travelling for work, and I went from a snowy environment to a warmer environment to a snowy environment to a sub tropical environment in under a month. If I had to choose something to cover all my bases, IH would not be it.

My pick? 14.5oz
I know violence is not the answer, I got it wrong on purpose

I saw this and thought it was a simple way of explaining denim weight.

Quote from: mlyngard
It's a pretty simple equation:

Denim weight is stated in ounces-per-square-yard

tighter-weave denim shrinks less.  Looser weave shrinks more.  The more the shrink, the heaver weight per-yard after soak (the denim contracts).

A good example is SDA natural indigo vs. regular.  The natural indigo version is 14oz raw, the regular is 15oz.  The natural shrinks 2" in the waist, the regular 1".  So post-soak, both should be roughly the same weight.

Like Salaami said, a thicker feeling, slubbier denim won't always weigh more either, since cotton thread can feel thicker because of slubbiness and yarn 'loft' but weigh less.
RIP Geo

The more I get into "real" denim, the more I love the weight of heavier denim.

I can't even imagine what IH feels like, as the heaviest I've got are 14oz, but I wear them as skinnies and have been forewarned that even in the 19oz that I crave I wouldn't be able to bend my knees!!!

My 11oz Nudies feel much heavier than that but next time it's 14oz again... Then try to step up to a heavier weight that I can move in!!

Enjoy your heavyweights- they look awesome to me!

Levis 501 feel like pajama pants now after wearing 19oz sammies and IH SRs the past few years. Regular denim just dosnt feel right... its like driving a lambo for 2 years than jumping in a pinto. Just aint right...

This ^

I used to to occasionally wear a pair of Sugercane Hawaii, but they really did feel like pyjamas so I had to sell them. I enjpy the heavier denim all year round, I think maybe 16 or 17oz is as low as I can go (Samurai Jins).

Today I'm in 14oz (3sixteen+) which is the heaviest I've found so far to fit.
Next year I'll be chasing 19oz

You guys are SO lucky....being the size of an 8 year old is no fun out in the "real jeans" world!!!
