Hobbies and Pastimes / Giles' Kayak......
« on: April 27, 2021, 12:26:15 pm »
So, I love fishing.

Covid has meant that going to some of the remote and far-off places that I like to fish has been impossible, So I have ordered a kayak, a Hobie Outback, so that I am not restricted to fishing from the shore.

It is due here in a couple of weeks.  Covid has severely screwed up production, and Brexit has severely screwed up European distribution, so in the UK at the moment, finding a new one is like finding rocking-horse shit, and the secondhand market has gone ballistic.

I wheedled my way into the UK importers' good-books,  and they managed to get what I wanted into a container from the US which is due here in a week or two.  It's not my first choice colour, but beggars can't be choosers.

I have stuff to do before it arrives, and probably quite a lot between taking delivery and putting it on the water so I'll try and document it here.

News / 2021 Price Rises
« on: February 21, 2021, 03:11:21 pm »
We have put off doing this for as long as we can, but cost pressures in many areas and a general strengthening on the Yen has made this necessary.

Sometime between now and 1st March (this depends on when we can write the code for the update), our prices will be going up an average of 5%.  We have used this opportunity to rationalize some pricing, so some prices have not moved at all, others have gone up more than 5%.

Over the last few years we have reduced prices when we can, in fact, XHS jeans were USD450 when we released them 10 years ago, they are currently USD400 and will rise to USD420.

Sorry folks.....

We will be sending a newsletter with the text below out tomorrow morning.  But we wanted you guys to know in advance.

We’re delighted that we are again open for orders from European Union (EU) countries.

We have found a way forward with selling into the EU, and have created a new, EU specific website – www.ironhearteu.com

I am dearly sorry that we had to close the shop down and doing so has caused us sleepless nights. Turning off sales to one of our largest markets is something that in my worst nightmares I could not have envisaged needing to do.

Some people have criticized us for not being prepared for Brexit. Whilst to many of you it may seem like that, we had in fact worked hard to be well prepared for many months, and what actually transpired on 1st January was something that came as a great surprise to just about everybody, which is why so many small/medium businesses are hurting.  Assurances for many months of duty-free trading simply haven’t happened, and the additional fees being levied for the massive amounts of extra paperwork are far higher than we were led to believe.

The net effect it has had on us is that the cost of us doing business with an EU country is considerably higher than with any other country in the world.   The fact that our closest geographical neighbors and friends are now the hardest to do business with is both ridiculous and sad.

Many small businesses on both sides of the Channel are struggling, and many will sadly cease trading.  We consider ourselves extremely lucky that we have buoyant global sales that help ease the pain.

We hope that you will understand that our actions over the past couple of weeks were in no way a reflection on our commitment to our EU customers, and we look forward to your continued support.  If you have any questions about buying from the EU, please don’t hesitate to contact us at shop@ironheart.co.uk

All of your buying history should be in the new EU site.

Any issues at all, please let us know.

General Chat / The Iron Heart Podcast

The Iron Heart Podcast

We probably need to give it a more engaging title, and that we will work on.

It was suggested that we do a podcast, we thought the idea was great, so we are doing one.

Our host will be Olly Walker, a friend, Iron Heart model (look out for him in some of the lookbooks) and a great all-round guy.

Catch up with him on his YouTube channel - B.O.T.C - Blow Out The Cobwebs

We're really delighted that Olly has agreed to do this with us, he has an easy-going and engaging conversational style that we think will bring out the best in his guests.

Today, Alex and I sat down with Olly today and sketched out some ideas.

In the first episode, Olly will talk to me talking about how we got from nowhere to where we find ourselves today, and in the second Alex will talk about how he got involved and where he wants to take us.

I have given Olly no more guidance than the above, there is nothing that I have told him to talk about, there is nothing that I have told him I don't want to talk about.  I've also said I want the minimum of editing done on the audio.

We have loads of ideas for future episodes but would value your input, shit it's you who's got to listen to it 😳

2021 Charitable Donations

Every year we make a number of charitable donations.

We’re extremely grateful that our Iron Heart business was able to continue and thrive during what has been an incredibly difficult year for many. In thanks, we have made charitable donations to some very worthy causes chosen by the team:

·     Children in Need (supporting various children’s charities in the UK and worldwide)
·     Chrohns and Colitis (help and support for sufferers)
·     Clic Sargent (supporting children with cancer and their families)
·     Give us a Shout (phone support for people suffering from depression and anxiety)
·     Mary’s Meals (providing free school meals for impoverished children)
·     Royal National Lifeboat Institution (saving lives at sea)
·     Rowan’s Hospice (end of life care for cancer sufferers and support for their families)
·     Samaritans (care and support for people feeling suicidal)

Again, thank you for your incredible support,

The IHUK Crew

General Chat / Inappropriate Posting
« on: January 02, 2021, 04:01:59 pm »
Recently we have had to delete a couple of posts that we felt were a little close to the bone, and perhaps a little out of context with what we like to see here.

I don’t ever want this place to become over moderated, and the other mods and I try very hard to handle things with a light touch.

I got a message from a long term forum member today.

I’ll quote from the message that I received earlier because I don’t think I can articulate it any better.

“I look upon this forum and the people who use it frequently as brand ambassadors, and often think that if I was new, bought my first pair of IH's, what would I think when I see the forum for the first time.”

Enough said.

News / A New Mezzanine....
« on: December 19, 2020, 11:13:38 am »
We have run out of space, particularly in the goods in/packing/goods out area.

To make more space for @AdamC and his team, we are (well, Les is) building a new mezzanine above the jeans storage area.  This will mean we can move some racks that are currently on the ground floor next to the shipping area, doing this will allow us to expand Adams area.

The joists and joist hangers have arrived, we should be able to start hanging joists next week.  Les's biggest problem is a Monday, so I never bank on seeing him on a Monday, and treat it as a bonus if I do  :)

We cant install the floor until we get new lights installed, otherwise, we put the current jeans storage area into darkness.  So once the joists are up, we have to wait for the lights, which we will suspend from the joists.  Then I have to coerce Jamie the sparkie to come in and wire them up for us.

Once the lights are working, we can then install the floor.

Oh, and at some point, stairs will need to go in.  They have been ordered but I suspect it will be The New Year when we see them.

And in the mean-time, I'm praying that I configured them correctly  :-X :-X
