Iron Heart Hacks…
-
Inspired by a chat with @Appfaff, this thread is for sharing all the little tricks, tips and cheats that we use to get away with wearing great gear that doesn't always fit our bodies as we may like. Stupid bodies…
It could have to do with styling, shrinkage or stretch, sizing down or up or anything else. Tips for buttoning up XHS for the first time are always useful
Inspired by a recent period of weight gain, I devised a method for stretching waistbands:

I know that @Appfaff has a few involving ironing shirts, and @Jett129 has his Shrinkmaster 3000.

My “Ironing” Flannels Hack:
Ever had your partner accidentally dry your perfectly sized UHF?
Perhaps you got a spring weight flannel on the Marketplace for a song, but it’s a tad too small…
Well, whatever the reason, if you find that your IH flannel is a bit too small, here is how I’ve seen half-size increases in size.
Give the flannel a gentle wash in cold
Water and a hang dry.Once it’s fully dry, turn the bad boy inside out, and iron (with steam!) on relatively high setting.
Ensure you are keeping the steam pumping throughout the ironing session.
Let the flannel hang dry on a hanger, and you will be able to bridge the gap on a “just barely fits” flannel.
**this works in flannels straight from IHUK as well, just skip the wash. Be careful not to iron a crease in the sleeves (unless that’s your thing)
You can also use this hack to shorten the sleeves by washing and drying and the shirt, and then only ironing the body, so that the body goes back near normal but the sleeves stay short.
Happy ironing!

Couple hacks of my own…
Yes Mr. Stauffer! Confirms my suspicion that we are all hustling with our own little tricks. Is that all working for you?

My Johnny Cash shirt fits almost perfectly, but when I bought it I did not sufficiently take shrinkage into account… And esp the sleeves can NOT get any shorter. So when it needed its first wash a few days ago, I did this...
Worked like a charm - I even gained a centimeter and a half on the sleeves.
Only the clothes hanger gave up the ghost. Definitely a heavy shirt, that Johnny Cash.

Nicely done @Lowlander. Lo-tech, down and dirty and very effective.

I wanted to share this. My sister moved to Washington state and left a bunch of odds and ends here. So there are a bunch of these enamel coated hanging flower basket hooks that make great jeans hangers. They feel like they could hold a significant amount of weight. Way better than a hanger in my opinion and they are probably inexpensive.
