I just wanted to show a little love to my favorite one-man-band cap maker out of Oak Ridge Tennessee. I met Otis back in ‘14 when he was operating out of the Marathon Building in Nashville and only had a couple of caps the time. He was making mostly mens goods and had just gotten featured in GQ for his bowties and also collaborating with Imogene + Willie. Today, he does mostly hats and caps but still had a good number of other accessories. I bought a limited edition hickory stripe hat he had done for the coffee shop Barista Parlor and since then I’ve amassed a pretty nice collection of his pieces.
Otis James x Barista Parlor:
I also have a bunch of panel caps, a flat cap, 5 other ball caps, and a few hankerchiefs.
Here are a few others
Denim Brawler
Wool & indigo canvas custom Willis
Indigo selvedge canvas & suede
And my newest that JUST came today, a herringbone field cap
Every fabric is OBSESSIVELY pattern matched and either lined or taped (field caps etc). Most of my caps have been off his website but I have also ordered 3 caps and it was a completely custom process from the style to the fabric to the liner. All completely unique. He does take his time to do it right and I havent had a cap disappoint me yet. I didnt want to list his website without Mod approval but if you google him it will show up pretty readily.
Give him a look up, he’s a good guy and a hell of a craftsman.

That hickory hat looks pretty damn cool ! I also like the last herringbone cap. I'm going to check this guy out next time I'm in the market for a hat. I have been exclusive to papa for the last few years but this guys craftmanship looks like he may be worth a look.

I have a couple of Papas hats as well and they are also really nice. I do like a sized cap though because Papas M/L sizing has been a little inconsistent IMO.

@Anesthetist Those are very nice! I’ve been perusing the site and will probably put an order in this weekend. Thank you!!

Thanks for being considerate Matt, but no problem. Here you go…

Thank you G
I like the new field cap but it was a touch blocky. I gave it a good warm soak and wore it for a but while it dried to mold it to my noggin better. Fit is much improved IMO and now I’m just waiting for the sweat band to relax back to where it started.

Lookin good!
I used to frequent the Marathon area quite often for deliveries, and would stop by his space any time I could. Also visited him quite often when he moved to the other side of town near Germantown. I've bought lots of hats, bowties, pocket squares, bandanas, even fabrics, threads and sewing machines from him. I ran the Goorin Bros hat shop in downtown Nashville from about 2013-2019, and would send people his way allll the time.

Based upon the recommendation and brilliant pictures by @Anesthetist, I placed an order in the spring with Otis James for a few hats. They are fantastic and would highly recommend them if you’re in the market. Fit, finish, and details are top notch.

Man they all look great, I think I’ll be nabbing a cord cap soon myself!
