Organizations. All companies/orgs, have an obligation to make as much profit and pay as little tax as possible. They are bound to do as such by their shareholders. It's not an Apple thing.

^ All true and very excellent points + No hard feelings for anybody here. If anything kudos for keeping and repairing your old computer. :)

Actually have an apple in my life. That said, once the household Apple goes out that we've had since 2003, we'll be doing this:

@Snowy yeah it has been growing great. no problems so far. after getting it replaced, i upgraded the hard drive to ssd and everything feels so much faster. it feels like the computer had a refresh and could go on for another 2-3 years. so that puts it lifespan about 5-7 years, which is good. the only thing i'm lacking is a retina screen.

well, glad you got it replaced, as a side note, it would be worth getting it replaced even though the screen has not fuck up. that way you could sorta have a peace of mind.

So help me out here guys.  I'm out of warranty on my MBA, I bought it about 18 months ago.  The screen died in Thailand, but that's "all". If I plug into an external display I can use it.  You reckon if I take it into an Apple store, they'll do something about it?

Always worth a try at a Apple Store in my experience. Had out of warranty iPhones replaced.

You may check their website too. There are several active recalls for various products. I had an out of warranty iPhone 5 repaired for free when the lock button failed. They replaced the battery just for the heck of it while they had the phone open.

yeah like what they all mentioned. check in with the apple store see what they an do/cost are to replace. also check online if there are any other people with similar fault on your MBA model/year and also check for any ongoing/upcoming replacement programs if so..

I'd book it and just take it in. They'll either do it for free or give you the estimated cost on the spot.

You can take it to an authorized Apple repair shop as well. They usually have lower prices and carry the same warranty as if Apple did the repair themselves

My MBP is back 1.5 business days. No cost, and working better than it was before service. It's had a good cleaning on the inside and out. The inside was full of cat hair that I couldn't remove, but after they'd removed the logic board, I think they vacuumed to whole thing clean. I love what Apple does. Turns a negative experience into a strong advocacy experience and I still love it!
