December 2011, kat is as cool as a polar bears toenails & doesn't blow smoke up anyone's a$$. this write up is poetry cause it really gives a glimpse into his thought process on an item that i won't be able to look at the same.
Well, I just got this shirt a few days ago, and wow…
I'd been eyeballing it forever, but haven't really been in a place to buy a new shirt. Then it sold out of my size and the fantasy was over. Then Giles rounds up a few more from Japan, then puts them on sale, then some other stars align and here I am, happy as can be.I really feel like this is a truly unique IH shirt and can't believe it's flown under the radar and not gotten more attention. Of course, I also love my IHSH-30, and there's almost no activity or discussion on that one either (I must be way ahead of, or behind the curve).
I'm not the product review type (although I always enjoy and appreciate a good write up from a more eloquent member), bur this thing has inspired me to do so...1. Color...In a word, unbelievable! The richness of the indigo is truly a thing of beauty. I know the OD debate rages on in other corners of this forum, but I'm all for more experimenting with indigo dyeing (didn't Cris suggest an indigo dyed hoodie...?). My indigo forum tee from last year is aging amazingly and I can't wait to see what the future holds for this shirt. To me the indigo dyeing of a western shirt is a beautiful synthesis of a traditional Japanese aesthetic with solid and classic American inspired design (and being Japanese and living in an old logging/fishing area in the Pacific Northwest, I feel like this shirt was basically made for me).
2. Fabric...Ok, to me this is what makes this shirt so unique, and I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet. If I were to blindfold you and let you feel this shirt (don't get too excited), I guarantee that no one would describe it as flannel. It feels much more like canvas or something. Almost a little rough and textured to the touch, definitely not soft (meaning to the touch, the shirt is not stiff by any means). A while ago, SE had a shirt that was made with what they described as "slub cotton duck" I believe, and that is the closest thing I have felt that comes close. I can say that it is quite wind proof though, and I love that. Also, with this fabric, there is really no "give". In my other IH flannels if I really bend my arms or stretch my shoulders (or if I'm sitting at a bad slouched angle after dinner and the gut starts pushing out) the fabric kind of stretches a little bit with me if that makes sense. There is no stretch or give with this stuff, which leads to my next point...
3. Fit...As the fabric isn't really spongy or pliable, it fits fairly snug. But this is a good thing for me. The measurements on the site were exactly spot on for what I like (I take a L in all IH tops by the way) but this one definitely feels just a bit more fitted. I guess the 33 is about as fitted in the middle, but the 43 is shorter in the body and arms which I am loving. No pics for now, camera's at work over the break...maybe I can get the kid to snap a phone pic later. And finally, it's time to address to real elephant in the room...
4. The Buttons...Boy those little black diamonds sure caused an uproar, didn't they? When I first saw pics of this shirt I was feeling the same as most, love the fabric, not loving the buttons. When the shirt arrived, G had thrown in the MOP buttons just in case. Before I got it I had every intention of pimping it, now, not so sure. When I fist opened the package I put the shirt on, and the people in the room all said the same thing, "woah, nice shirt, LOVE those buttons". Over the last couple of days I've gotten nothing but compliments on the buttons, seriously. Cashiers, random girl at bar, bookstore worker, friends (and even the wife!) have all made it a point to say how cool they thought my buttons were. And you know what, they're right. Sure, they're unconventional and new for IH, but that's the beauty. Nothing wrong with going a little avant garde and doing something outside the very small and perfect box of IH shirt design. Being safe is boring, and these buttons might challenge the norm, but variety is the spice of life no?
Well, that is my ramble/review.
Did I mention that I really love this shirt..?close 2nd is Lando's post about the Melton Wool, if you ever had an doubts about this dude's passion & genuine love check out the below alcohol induced post/rant:
@LandoCal126:Yo guy or girl, stop being a bitch and buy this fucking shirt. I get nothing if you do, trust me. There is one thing you can count on from my statements and that is that I do NOT bullshit or lie. If there is something I am not a fan of for myself, I tend to stand down. However, I will never stray away from a technical or constructive conversation regarding any product. That being said, there is not one single complaint, reason, suspicion, whatever, etc. for you to doubt the benefits of this shirt and its presence in your arsenal. Trust. Does anyone think I would buy three of the same exact shirt? If you are able sell ANYTHING and get this in your war room… Church

My favourite for December, although I am a little biased…
Today Tommytron received an unbelievably awesome present courtesy H, G + P, some Mini Iron Heart jawns….
Tommys first comments, when trying the jeans on were that they were "heavy", "stiff" and "thick", the kid knows his denim already
Just to say a huge thanks to Haraki San, Giles and Paula, for sending the jeans to Tommy, we are all absolutely genuinely grateful. We (as a family) met Haraki San and the rest of the stubborn crew at the IH party in September, Tommy took a real liking to Haraki San, and tended to follow him around, and try to sit next to him as often as possible.
Even at Tommys young age (5) he appreciates good people, and speaks often and fondly of everyone who he met at the party, in particular Giles, Paula, Haraki, Ayumi, "Crazy" Ruedi", Rocket, Ophelie and his absolute favourite Beatle.

we have an early winner for me:
We continue to have this dicussion pages and pages later. It really obviously varies from person to person. What is the limiting factor in your sizing?
For me, I can fit a medium, but the shoulders start to be tight. Larges provide more room in the shoulders, but the provide almost too much room in the stomach/waist area. Then again, I have broad shoulders for my height and this is a consistent problem with me across all brands. So of course, I would suggest to size up to layer.
The real question you should ask yourself is this. Do I have another IH shirt? If the answer is yes, ask yourself how roomy it is. Could you fit another shirt under it comfortably? Also, how tight do you like your shirts to begin with?
I guess I just don't understand why there have to be so many pages in this single thread withGiles giving advice to size up to layer, while DrPat always chimes in to say that you should stay true to size. For new buyers, it is obviously confusing to do this.
I suggest looking at the fit pictures of members and the info on their sizing in the guide Giles has so graciously provided for us. Giles pics show that he usually goes for a more relaxed fit, while DrPat's pics show that he likes his shirts tight. In my opinion, the difference between sizes in Ironheart is not that big. If you want to comfortably layer and like your clothes to fit more relaxed like Giles, size up one. If you like it to fit tight like DrPat, go TTS.
i love new joins, but i really hate sizing questions. it makes me evenmaddermonday

As sizing questions have been on the rise, I ask everyone to remember this…
what differnce does it make, consult the size chart

I hate you guys
You hate being wrong is more like it. Just admit you stole TommyTron's girlfriends IH Vest and that you are moving it along to someone who can actually wear it and all this will be over.
only way i won't be snapping this up is if between now & release date i have a serious of unfortunate events & lose evey dollar i have. after i lose all my money i would have to also lose the ability to sell semen as well as blood & clean urine. if all those things thake place then i will NOT buy this shirt.
so i think i will be grabbing this item
When, numerically speaking, did the shirts start going up to the big boy sizes?
When Giles realized how many shirts he could sell you and Monday…

It was this post that made me realsie that I just am not disciplined enough to track my favourite posts of the month.
You want stuff remembered, ask Mme B - she makes lists….
This is true- Madame Buttonfly is the go to Padmore for all that dull "remembering" and "details" stuff.;)
So I have changed the title and will just post ones I like here as and when I see them….

"Go-to Padmore" is an expression I might steal offa Chris aka The Houston Problem…

I tried hanging them with two (two!) wooden hangers with metal clasps - no dice… I tried hanging them outside on my rack - it fell over... It's one of them feckers with a heavy stone for a foot... I barely can move the fecking thing but the XHS'es didn't seem to take notice...
So I tossed them over a plastic rack inside an made sure there weren't any folds... And fuck me: I ain't turning them inside out again til they're dry either...
I hope they'll be dry by Tuesday... :-[

@Boss:
We've been lucky at Iron Heart, thanks to our customers that we were able to expand our line up so our customers can choose from variety of items that we produce. In the past when I was to go to meetings I used to have to explain "21oz is 1.5times that of 14oz and its very sturdy", but these days I feel that we are well known enough that we don't really need to explain that.
That being said, I get asked often "what is Iron Heart going to make next?" or "Make something that is very Iron Heart like". So, what should we do next?
Like cars, clothing that you want to wear changes over time.
The idea that we want to make great things, great clothing doesn't change.
We've got to step it up a notch.
I love this. Haraki saying that Iron Heart is about quality and durability, but not a specific style or type of clothing. As he changes, so will the products. And we're able to go along for the ride, which is cool.

@Julius:
. . . This forum could potentially be a place for open and intelligent discussion, instead it is a closed-house of self-congratulory[sic] remarks and insular bigotry. A shame Giles! Especially when you post with such equanimity. So unfortunately my brief experience leaves me to conclude that this thread, at least, is dominated not by IQ but IH: Ignorant Halfwits!
some threads & topics make us really pull out all the stops in our posts & this excerpt hits one out the park. one of the nicest ways i have ever read some one telling folks to f^ck-off

So Julius Von Felden was right after all. A pity about that rod up his arse.
so much said with so few words. seul is an under-appreciated commodity here

@Dirty:
I rocked the fekk out of these yesterday. 1st went to the Dr with my fiance and got to see our baby squirm around in my fiances belly. We found out we are havin a girl. Krissy is 5 months into her pregnancy Later I got down & dirty and did some work on my house . Licorice Noose's pair got me motivated to say fekk it I didn't buy these things to wear dress shoes and a blazer with. I have to get over the fact that YES these things are $500 but they are meant to get majorly fekked and can handle it to boot..Pics to follow once I take some pics of WAYWT. Oh and they are finally breaking in except the waist band which continues to say FEKK YOU to me all day. So I paid the devil his toll and said FEKK YOU BACK
