Trains and boats and planes… on our way to Bologna for long weekend! First the ferry from Gosport to Portsmouth Harbour
Now on train to Gatwick, doing some work and - most important - programming Georgeel’s number into my phone!
-
@Madame:
Trains and boats and planes…

Mme B has gone all weak knee'd. Hugh Grant is sitting across the aisle from her…....
But she is not a a hooker so he won't have any interest. Tell him you are spying on celebrities for the tabloids. He loves that shit.
-
Don't mess with his phone, he gets very upset…
-
On plane.
Just arrived at Bologna airport, waiting for luggage:
At hotel, have managed to persuade G to relinquish laptop for a couple of hours, so we're heading out to do some exploring!
-
have a great weekend guys
-
nice! looking forward to more pics!
have fun kiddos!

Today we wandered round some of the lesser known bits of Bologna.
There's one of those towers in the distance
I'm not a religious man and nor was Geo. But for the first time in my life I felt moved enough to light a candle. Still miss you Geo
Bologna has dozens of 11 - 13th century palaces dotted around the place, many have been turned into apartments now. Fancy living here?
In 1365 the spanish built a hostel for the spanish students at Bologna university. It still performs the same function. Not a bad student pad
This door large enough?
Those Bolognese! In Medieval times it was vital that as a noble, you built yourself a tower. Perpendicular towers became rather common, so the nutters started to build them at jaunty angles…..

Great stuff Giles. It is really interesting, so keep the pictures and info coming!
-
great pics, ii it cold there?
did you go up the tower (the very long one next to it)?
-
So, tonight we met Giorgio.
We hit town early so we could grab a beer. And, it was colder than last night, hence the down vest….
Mme B waiting at the rendezvous (neptune)…
Mme B liked this….
And, I liked this….
Giorgio hits the bar for the first round
Then one of his friends, Per Paulo turned up
…........
Later, I ate Osso Bucco. Giorgio described it as the Iron Heart of food
After dinner we hunted down some of the hidden canals
This is the lovers window looking over one of the canals, shit I'm the wrong side of the bleeding camera…..

with shoque, thanks for sharing and keep them coming…
-
^man do I love that jacket
-
Remains of roman gate and pretty intact city wall…
Another tower, there used to be over 300 on Bologna, this one is pretty boring as it is vertical
More stunning architecture
Christmas tat market - decent surroundings though
Antique market in another part of town, surroundings again were stunning - the Church in the background is 7 churches in one. Over the years as different religions held power, they would just build another church over the exiting one, so this has 7 layers of church, much like an onion…
And there was some great stuff for sale. We bought this extremely useful 1860 Sevres container
Giorgio proving that he is tough enough
Giorgio and his wife, Silvia
Parmesan shop
Pretty Christmassy portici

Having a wonderful time, great to meet up with Georgeel and his beautiful wife, we covered a lot of ground yesterday and got through some amazing food. Am generally too busy chatting, eating or drinking to take pix so apologies but here are a few:
Outside San Francisco church, in the sunshine
Entrance to the Spanish college student digs
Giles standing outside wishing he'd been a student there
Another beautiful building

Blowing my mind - so beautiful.
