IHW-01 (Melton Wool shirt)
-
A few questions about the IHW-01:
1. Is this more of a shirt or a jacket. It's labeled as a shirt but is described as being made of wool as thick as that used in peacoats.
2. How scratchy is it? And is it designed to be worn over a tshirt or only long sleeve shirts? I tried on a melton wool shirt/jacket by SugarCane over a tshirt and had to remove it immediately because it was itching me so badly. I usually have no problem wearing wool sweaters over a tshirt.

Hi DrPat,
It has slanted side pockets so it is really a shirt/jacket cross over. I have not seen it in the flesh yet, delivery due here in about 4 weeks

I noticed the following message on the webpage
IMPORTANT. The sizing of these Shirts runs smaller than the Western equivalents (of S, M, L etc). Please do not assume that because you are normally an L, that you will be an L in these, you must check the measurements below.
Is this for those who are unfamiliar with the brand or would you say that the sizing for this item is inconsistent with Ironheart's previous sizing? The IHW-01 seems to be 0.5 inches larger in the chest and shoulders compared to a shirt of equivalent size, which I would assume makes it fit slightly looser, even when accounting for the slightly thicker fabric.
I own several different IH shirts of size medium and they all fit me perfectly. I would assume that I am also a medium in this.

This is general warning that I am going to put on all shirts and jackets pages. It is NOT specific to the IHW-01. I have recently had a bout of people (new to Japanese clothing, it has to be said) ordering a size too small. The general assumption appears to be that S, M, L, XL etc are uniform accross the world. I am trying to make the point that they are not. In broad terms, a US XL is larger than a European XL which is larger than a Japanese XL. Personally I wear XL Iron Heart tops, but can sometimes even get away with an M in a US clothing brand. I don't mind swapping goods for the correct size, but if I can help the customer get it right first time, then I save money but more importantly the customer gets a better overall experience. OK? Or is there a better way I could be making the point?

Thanks for the info. This make perfect sense. I would consider making a general warning such as that above for those not familiar with IH products and then a specific recommendation for those that are. Something like "If you take a medium in Ironheart shirt X I recommend you take a large in jacket Y". And I would make sure that the warnings and info are present for all products on your webpage. If some products have it and some don't then people may make the assumption that some product runs smaller or larger based upon a missing message.

In the Ordering section of your IHW-01 page you have this shirt listed as IHSW-16.
Also, do you know the weight of the wool used in t his shirt?

Thanks DrPat, Fixed. Yes 14.5oz, it does say under the main picture, maybe you need to refresh the page, I added it after I built the original page, was waiting for verification from Haraki

I just received this shirt. Here are my thoughts.
1. The navy is so dark that I would consider it black (which I prefer to navy anyway). You can see that it is much darker than my navy curtains and jeans.
2. I would recommend wearing a long sleeve t-shirt underneath unless you have leather skin. The inside of the elbows especially itched while wearing short sleeves. I bought a form-fitting long sleeve shirt to wear under it because I didn't want any extra bulk in the sleeves since they are fairly narrow. The cuffs and neck have a cotton lining to prevent itching. The neck lining does not extend to the extreme top of the collar but the neck is large enough that it's not touching my skin.
3. I wear a medium in every Ironheart shirt I have and got a medium in this as well. The shoulders and chest fit great. The sleeves are perhaps 1 cm too long but it's nothing I'll complain about. For reference, I'm approximately 5'11'' and 155lbs (180cm and 70kg).
4. It's a great shirt and I would definitely recommend it. I'll take some better pics outside in the sunlight when I get a chance.

DrPat, Where did you score this already?!?

Nice! A true addict. Can't wait for mine to come. Thanks for the insight on the long sleeve shirt option.
