Ten C - jackets
-
Hello,
I came across a store in Rotterdam called "Country House" where they sell jackets from a brand called Ten C.
The fabric and finish on these jackets is unreal! Price is pretty hefty and I desided not to buy anything.
Did some google-stuff and found the company website:
To bad they only have video because these jackets look realy good!
Anybody know anything about this OJJ fabric, or this company? Is it worth the price?

the brand was created by a few designers from stone island , seen there stuff at The Bureau here in Belfast and it looks great but like you said quite pricey

AFAIK, the fabric is actually a Japanese microfiber knit with special dying and finish/coating.
It is quite stiff, but once it gets wet it is soft and smooth.
Relatively water proof due to the finish, but the water-proofness will wear off with washing…
The material seems to be weak in tensile strength - it rips too easily at the buttons. Initial releases had no back buttons on the underside of the fabric for the regular buttons - later releases secured their buttons with back buttons.
The finish allowed for great patina and wear, especially at hems and around the zippers.
Quickly resulting in an appearance that was not always welcomed by everybody...The overall quality in sewing on the finished garments has been spotting, based on my observations - check/inspect the garment and the seams before you buy it.
The fabric used to be exclusive to 10C, but I have seen it used by friends of mine here in Moscow for their brand. They have actually used it to great success with pigment dyes.

You can always find the ten-c stuff on sale somewhere at the end of the season. I looked at one years ago, but read a lot of bad reviews about the quality/longevity of the jackets. If i were paying full price I would definitely go for one of the Arcteryx Leaf jackets instead.

Stay clear of arc'teryx leaf. Hands down the worst warranty experience i have ever had to deal with. Because leaf is their military line, arc'teryx has an extremely difficult time replacing products or even fixing for some reason. Had a product fail last april, sent it in and they said they would replace. Fast forward to this summer after numerous emails and calls; still no replacement; got pissed off and finally said send my original product back fixed. They shipped original product back with no repairs having been done. And this was after they even admitted that it was a manufacture defect. Contacted again, and they pretty much told me they wouldn't do anything and i should be happy they didn't charge me return shipping costs.
I have had no problems with regular arc'teryx warranty, but leaf opens a whole different can of worms.

I have the Ten C field jacket with the down liner and love it. Got it about a year ago and have used it with and without the liner and have had no problems. The fabric's not waterproof but holds up in light showers quite well and I knew that when I got the jacket so isn't an issue for me.
Edit: Oh yeah one minor niggle - mine is the version with snaps instead of velcro on the sleeve flaps, but the velcro that holds the collar flap is quite crappy and it doesn't have enough grip to hold the flap in place. Not too annoying but I would steer clear of the ones with the velcro on the sleeve flaps because that would be a pain in the ass if they flapped around all the time.
