Giles Hits Oman….

G. I see you would have flown over the famous Rub' al Khali, (The Empty Quarter), to get to Salalah from Doha. A place Wilfred Thesiger crossed on numerous occasions in the 40's & 50's with The Bedu. (Bedouin). He wrote a book, Arabian Sands, which had a profound effect on me, having myself lived in several places on the Arabian Penninsular in the 70's. A fantastic read.
Apologies for thread drift, & enjoy the fishing.

I am fishing the small group of islands here:
Drive up from Salala yesterday was spectacular:
Off we go fishing (as it turned out just casting - no fish..
It was extremely windy and the boat ride back from the islands was 2.5 hours. I was lying on a bean bag at the rear of the boat and I swear I thought the crew were pouring buckets of water over me the whole way back. I got a tad wet.
Proof that people do catch. These are successful lures left behind by previous fishermen. If you can see weights on any of them, that is the weight of the GT that the lure caught….

I just got back a few days ago from Oman! Really beautiful place.

No it's in the Hajar Mountains. On the way from Al Hamra to the small village of Hat. I didn't make it down to Salalah but someone at the airport said it is amazing. Have fun Giles!

Bless him, he's on Cloud 9: "it's a fish of a lifetime", which presumably means he won't ever want to go again, having reached such a pinnacle
