I often go here to fly fish (boat fishing): http://www.bristolwater.co.uk/fishing/lakes/chew.asp
This Saturday (just gone) was the first day of the season. The weather was perfect and the fishing was epic, between four of us (2 per boat) we caught 34 rainbow trout (approx 1-2 kilo each):
My rod was in this state a gratifying number of times:

I've always wanted to take up fly fishing, even more so now that I live in Canada, but by some great oversight, my father, nor anyone else, has ever taken me fishing….advice?
-
Thanks for the advice Giles. I will look into it and come back for more.
-
@ thomasnunnally - feel free to PM me (or hit this thread) with questions and what not.
Its always nice to talk about gear and you will want to make a good initially rod purchase if you decide to get into it.

that's some good fishing hectic, is that spot near where you live?
-
Yeah man, about 15 kms. I want to do more river fly fishing this year, I did a bit last year and I loved it. River trout are much smaller and are brown - its more a purist thing y'know?
-
thats pretty awesome, i am miles away from the nearest fly fishing site and we need a licence to fish for trout and salmon here.

i though it was just us been difficult, good to hear everyone gets the same treatment haha….

Fishing is one of those sports (like golf) I'd like to get into when i'm a bit older and don't live in a city
for now though i'll have to stick to:Â

Just started fly fishing last summer, and can't wait for classes to end and some free time to clear up to once again get in the swing of things.
One of my good friends and fishing buddies studies fish populations here in Michigan for a living, and has knowledge of some of the best spots in the state. Can't wait to get out and see where he takes me this year.

One of my favourite dive sites. The Marion, Andros, Bahamas…
The Marion was a large US Navy barge that sunk when trying to lift something too heavy when building one of the offshore submarine cable recovery houses...
This is a caterpillar which was on the deck of the Marion when she sank…

Just remembered, I have this album up on FB…

That is the sort of friend to have….Does he have a colleague who does the same in Andros in the Bahamas - I'm fly fishing there in 3 months - primarily for these...
Oh man, catching bone fish in the Bahamas sounds like a blast.
I wish he had colleagues doing work in areas like that, but the department he works with focuses mostly on Michigan and the surrounding states.
And great pics Giles. I'm gonna have to go through and see if I can remember where all my diving pictures are stored.
